Description

The Lampahöjd nature reserve offers dramatic terrain with slopes and cliffs. Up on the heights stands a sparse, late-growing pine forest with elements of bare rocky ground, where the view of the surrounding landscape is miles wide.

Forest with long continuity

The slightly rugged and sometimes inaccessible landscape is one of the reasons for the reserve's high natural values. Much of the forest grows on slopes and has been difficult to access. Since the horse disappeared from forestry in the early 1900s, the forest has been left completely untouched, but you can still see traces of old driving roads, charcoal piles and moss-covered felling stumps in the more easily accessible parts of the forest.

Scented leather and candelabra fungus

There is a good supply of decaying spruce wood, and on the slopes dead spruce trees lie almost in piles. Several unusual wood-living fungi have been found in the reserve, including the woolly tick, the border tick and the scented leather. With a little luck, you can also find the beautiful and rare candelabra fungus, which only grows on really coarse, rotten aspen trunks. On living aspens there is a rich lichen flora with rarities such as lung lichen, hull lichen and coral lead lichen.

Mountain owl on the slope

The mountain owl is attracted by the steep cliffs and regularly nests in Lampahöjd. The pearl owl also occurs. It likes to nest in the old nesting hole of the sparrowhawk, which is often hacked out in a rough aspen. A really rare bird in the reserve is the three-toed woodpecker, which requires old forest with a lot of dead wood. Other wildlife species include the lynx, which is regularly observed.

Accessibility

Lampahöjd belongs to level 1 in the county administrative board's leveling of the county's nature reserves, which means that the reserve has a wilderness character and lacks outdoor recreation facilities.
