Description
Garphyttan National Park was established in 1909 and is one of Sweden's oldest national parks. The land consists mainly of the former property of Östra gården, one of four mountain farms in Svenshyttan. The core environment of the national park consists of the old farm site and the remaining open farmland, which is now managed with annual mowing. It is home to a variety of plants and animals typical of the meadows of the old agricultural landscape. The surrounding coniferous forest is today allowed to develop freely into natural forest, where both old and dead trees are left, an environment where many rare plants and animals thrive.
Information and maps
The national park has several hiking trails of varying length and difficulty. Maps of the trails and information about Garphyttan National Park can be found on the joint website for Sweden's national parks.
