Description
Lake Jerttalompolo is best known for its nesting smews. They live in nest boxes that have been arranged along the shoreline and on the island in the middle of the lake. Approach carefully near the shore if you want to see them; they are extremely timid and easily scared. The forest around the lake is easily hiked. There is also a stream – Jerttajoki – with surrounding mires. The area is 0.7 square kilometres. Note that snowmobiles are banned, and it is forbidden to light a fire.
