Description

Gammelstadsviken is one of the very finest places in the county for birdwatching, especially in spring. The area is accessibility adapted with trails, hearths , birdwatching tower , latrines and information. Bring binoculars and a packed lunch and discover one of Luleå’s treasures! The whole area is 4.4 square kilometres in size and snowmobiles may only be driven on the prepared snowmobile trail.

Parking

Parking spaces are available where the trails into the nature reserve begin.

Communications

The reserve lies about 4 kilometres north of Luleå town centre. An accessibility adapted trail starts at a car park near the Haparanda road. From the bus stop Vänortsvägen in Porsön, a new trail enters the reserve. From the north, the birdwatching tower is reached along a trail from the open-air museum Hägnan. Another hiking trail starts near Notviken train station (bus stop Notviken JVG), next to a footpath/cycle path.

Directions

The reserve is located about 4 kilometers north of central Luleå. A trail starts at a parking lot next to the old Haparandavägen. Coordinates parking lot X=826760.86. Y=7297782.362. (SWEREF99 TM 7297782.362, 826760.86). From the Vänortsvägen bus stop on Porsön, a new, accessible trail enters the reserve. From the north, the bird tower is reached by an approximately four-kilometer trail starting at the Hägnan open-air museum in Gammelstad church village. Another hiking trail starts south of the reserve at Notviken bus stop, next to the footpath and cycle path.

Regulations

All regulations can be found in the reserve decision. It is allowed to:

  • hike
  • cycling and horseback riding on trails
  • drive snowmobiles along snowmobile trails on well snow-covered ground
  • make fires in designated areas
  • picking berries and mushrooms

Littering or damaging plant and animal life is not permitted. Remember the right of public access and protect nature!
