Description
The railway station was built in 1893-1894. The station building is in the Old Norse style, and the architect is Folke Zettervall. The first train rolled into Malmberget in 1887, and the Inlandsbanan from Kristinehamn to Gällivare was completed in 1937. The station building was appointed "Building of the Year" in 1991 by the Gellivare Sockens Hembygdsförening.
The station is located along the Malmbanan railway and is the northern terminus of the inland railway. It is served by long-distance trains between Narvik in Norway and Luleå, or Stockholm, when the train set is split in Boden on certain routes.
