Description

Agda Rössel became the world's first female UN ambassador in 1958 and the memorial was created by the artist Ingrid Falk in 2023. Agda Rössel was born in a railway guard's cottage in Kilvo outside Gällivare and grew up in simple circumstances. After her time at the UN in New York, she was an ambassador in Belgrade, Prague and Athens. Agda Rössel was passionate about issues such as the abolition of the death penalty, women's rights, family planning and the fight against female circumcision.
