Description

The heritage park in Virestad is located in the central village, only a few minutes walk from the church.

The park offers both lush seating areas and open spaces for playing.

The old buildings you find in the park have been moved from their original locations around Virestad to create a very special and historical feeling.

You will find the old soldier’s cottage Bokelund, the cottage of candy maker Kristina Melin, the old barn stable Framnäsladugården, and the church stable where horses and carriages waited while their owners visited the church. The cottages are furnished as they would have been around 1900, giving you a real feeling of life in the Virestad area at that time.

The park and the buildings are maintained by the local Virestad heritage society, which also offers activites in the park throughout the year. Especially popular is the traditional midsummer celebration, where everyone is invited to join in the dancing and games.

The buildings are open to visit during the different activities or on request. The park is always open for visitors who just want to walk around or have a fika (Swedish coffee/snack break) at the tables and benches.

There is parking in connection to the park and the park is also wheelchair accessible (grass lawns). The buildings are old and not very wheelchair friendly.

Find more information about the park and the buildings at Virestads hembygdsförening (heritage society).
