Description
The current wooden church is heavily influenced by Baroque and consists of a nave with a lower and narrower chancel in the east. On the northern side, adjacent to the chancel, is the sacristy. On the western side is the porch with the main entrance of the church. The church, which is the third on this site, was built at the end of the 17th century and consecrated in 1694. The first church building may have been a stave church built as early as the 11th century. The beams in the chancel floor originate from one of the earlier churches. In the old Växjö diocese, the church was one of six or seven widely recognized offering churches. Around 1860, the porch was moved from the southern wall of the nave to the western gable. The church bells are housed in a freestanding bell tower. The interior is of the hall church type with a flat wooden ceiling in both the church room and the chancel. The walls are clad with white-painted oak paneling.
