Description

Here you can experience about a hundred different graves, mainly mounds, but also some standing stones. In the northern part of the area, there is also a runestone that tells of the contacts with the outside world already 1,000 years ago.

The Toftaholm area is located near Lake Vidöstern and is thus connected to the colonization route into Finnveden. The area contains both Bronze Age cairns and Iron Age burial grounds. In the southern part of the area, there is an Iron Age burial ground from 500–1050 AD, which includes about a hundred different ancient remains, mainly mounds but also some standing stones. The mounds are generally between seven and ten meters in diameter, with about twenty being larger, with a diameter of ten to fifteen meters.

The northwestern part of the burial ground is partially damaged by depressions, which are likely old, overgrown gravel pits.

A couple of the graves have been excavated and have yielded Viking Age finds such as bronze brooches, a round bronze brooch, a whetstone, several beads, and burnt bones.

The runestone next to Toftaholm Manor testifies to the area's contacts with the outside world in the 11th century. In the northern part of the Toftaholm area lies Tofta Skans, built during the wars of the 1650s to delay a possible advance of Danish troops along the national road.
