Description

The previous church building was a stave church, the wooden remains of which were found during a restoration of the current church. Timber from the old church, stored at the Smålands Museum in Växjö, has been dendrochronologically dated to the year 1146. The current stone church was probably built in the 13th century. The church consists of a nave with a narrower chancel to the east. North of the chancel is an attached sacristy added in 1865. The walls of the church room have drapery paintings executed in 1767 by the district painter Anders Hellgren. In the 19th century, the drapery paintings were painted over but were uncovered again in the 20th century. During the restoration of the paintings, older painting fragments were discovered. These paintings on the north wall of the chancel are dated to the 14th century.

South of the church is a freestanding wooden bell tower built in the 17th century. It is of the open bell-cage type and equipped with a helmet-shaped roof with a spire. The tower houses two church bells.
