Description

Although Lake Helgasjön' greenest island is within biking distance of Växjö, all the sounds of the city seem so distant. Instead, you'll be greeted by quiet strolling paths and unobtrusive beaches. Walking around this island takes from one to two hours. Glisteningly green beech forests alternate with spruce, pine and oak. The eastern part of Hissö island has small hidden bathing coves with soft sandy bottoms. Black-throated divers and sandpipers can be found along the shores of Lake Helgasjön. Black woodpeckers, hawfinches, wood warblers and chiffchaffs belong to this forest. In the winter, Hissö island makes a fine starting point for a skating or skiing tour to the many islands in Lake Helgasjön. For more information about the Hissö nature reserve, see the link below. This nature reserve is administered by the County Administration of Kronoberg.
