Description

Hallarydsrundan is an attractive bicycle tour that follows the Helge Å river, from Småland to Skåne and back. It was here that the border between Sweden and Denmark ran until 1658, when Skåne became Swedish. Note that the tour can be combined with the Örsjön lake Tour.

Route description: Start at the church in Hallaryd. Cycle east along the church wall and cross the Helge Å. After the river, but south of the road, lies Hallaryd rural heritage museum. This is a great spot for a picnic or a dip in the river. Then turn south towards Osby. After 400 m, turn right onto a gravel road. After just over 1 km, you can turn right to take a shortcut over the river via Kornberga mill. This is another place to stop for a rest. If you want to cycle the whole trail, it’s still worth a detour to see this beautiful spot. At Bejstorps Gård, you can hire a canoe or stop off for an ice cream. Other activities can be booked in advance, read more at bejstorp.com.

A little further south lies Gräsljunga farm shop. They sell locally produced goods such as their own sheepskins. It is usually open Fridays and Saturdays, but visit grasljunga.se to be sure. In Visseltofta you’ll cross the river once again. 300 m later you can head towards Emmaljunga to see the Icelandic horses and other farm animals at Kvarnbacka Gård. Riding tours are also offered here, find out more at kvarnbacka.se. Next to the farm is a burial cairn from the Bronze Age.

Head north from Visseltofta and take care crossing the busy Road 15! At the crossroads you can turn right to get back to Hallaryd. Turn left towards Markaryd and then Halseryd to continue on this tour. If you’re interested, you can take a quick detour to the old resting stones. Vitasjön lake has a beach with a jetty, changing rooms, a fireplace and outdoor toilet during summer. Cycle through lovely Ellefors on the gravel road back to Hallaryd.
