Description

The Galtö nature reserve is a treasure trove of untouched nature in the north-west part of Lake Helgasjön. In order to get here, you need a boat, canoe, kayak or firm winter ice. This oblong island (about 700 metres long and 100 metres wide), you'll find old-growth forest, dead trees, steep rises, flat rock and storm-felled trees. Creeping Norway spruce grows in the northern part of the island. Black-throated divers and ospreys are in the area, so be careful when you visit. Regulations

You are welcome to visit the nature reserve, but please note that it is not allowed to:

  1. drive a motorized vehicle
  2. collect vascular plants, lichens, mosses, fungi and insects or other animals, with the exception of picking berries and mushrooms for domestic use
  3. disturbing wildlife, for example by approaching a nesting site or similar
  4. light a fire, other than in a designated fireplace, on the northeastern part of the island
  5. put up a board, sign, poster, inscription or similar device,

Measures for scientific research that have been approved in advance by Växjö municipality are exempt from regulations 2, 3 and 5.
