Description

Bäckaslöv wetlands is the shooting range that became a bird sanctuary. It is now a popular place to walk, accompanied by grey herons, teals and moorhens. The wetlands and pond also function as a natural filter for rainwater on its way to Southern Bergundasjön Lake. Around tufts and birch curtains you can find whinchats, whitethroats and redwings. In the autumn and winter, rarities such as little grebe, Jack snipe and kingfisher can be observed.

Facts

Earth Week in Växjö 2021 The wetland in Bäckaslöv was established in 1994. Here, stormwater is collected and purified from oil pollution, metals and nutrients before the water flows on to Kassaviken in Södra Bergundasjön. Thanks to the treatment in the stormwater pond, Södra Bergundasjön has been restored and made swimmable again. The wetland is part of the Bokhultet nature reserve and contributes greatly to the recreational value and biodiversity of the area. In summer, the land is grazed by Highland cattle, which keeps the landscape open.
