Nabben, Naturreservat

  • Nature reserve
of 5 stars

Actions

Description

Nabben's nature is typical of the Tjust coast. The barren landscape alternates between rocky pine forest and bare rock. There are several ancient remains on the wide rocky headland. They testify to the fact that this part of the archipelago was heavily used during the Bronze and Iron Ages.

Staying by the sea

The Nabben nature reserve was established in 1973 with the aim of preserving the rocky pine forest but also to protect outdoor life. There are no prepared trails, so you can set out on your own little routes here. Why not follow the shoreline out to Nabbudden or look for one of the many ancient remains?

Traces of the ice sheet

The bedrock of the cape consists of granite and granodiorite. On the rocks you can see ice grooves in several places - traces of the ice sheet. The grooves were formed when rocks frozen in the ice scratched the rock.

Home for the discerning tick

Moss and lichen mats spread out over the rocks under gnarled, windswept pines. If you find the hoofed, tree-haired pine tick on a pine tree, you can assume that the tree is very old. It only grows on pines that are at least 100 years old.

Remains in the landscape

The nature reserve contains several prehistoric graves in the form of stone circles and cairns. The remains testify that this part of the archipelago was heavily used during the Bronze and Iron Ages. There was probably a fairway between Gamla Städsholmen and the mainland.
