Description
Mörlundaslätten stretches from Gårdveda in the north to Tigerstad in the south. It is an agricultural landscape with large arable fields. The rivers Emån and Gårdvedaån flow through the area, and kingfishers usually dig their nests in the steep banks. During late spring and early summer nights, nightingales often hold concerts here. They are accompanied by grasshopper warblers and marsh warblers. Good listening places are at the bridge over the Emån (between Målilla and Gårdveda), and about 100 meters northwest of the turnoff to Basgärde.
During spring and fall, up to 1,000 geese sometimes rest in the southern parts. You can see barnacle geese, graylag geese, barnacle geese and pink-footed geese. Blue harrier, kestrel and tawny owl are some of the birds of prey that usually pass through during the fall migration.
