Description

Almost all farmers used to have their own small windmill to grind grain. The mill king is a large mill, a so-called customs mill, which was operated by a miller, unlike the farmers' domestic mills.

It is of the stump mill type, where the entire mill house is turned around on an oak stump. The mill king was turned around with a boom winch, unlike the smaller windmills that could be turned around by hand. Kvarnkungen was built at Sandås in Kalmar in 1749. At the end of the 1870s, the mill was dismantled and transported to Öland. It was used until 1946.

Of the three mills that stand in Björnhovda next to road 136, Kvarnkungen is the one furthest south. North of Kvarnkungen is Drottningen, a Dutch-style customs mill. At the far north is the Crown Prince.

All three mills are owned and maintained by Torslunda Hembygdsförening
