Description
Hulingen is a fine bird lake and an excellent resting place for migrating birds in fall and spring.
Hulingen has a pronounced plain lake character with extensive reed beds, especially in the southern parts.
The southern part of Hulingen is largely set aside as a bird protection area. Here you can see, among other things, bittern, brown harrier, bearded tit, mallard, teal, dabbling duck, grebe, coot, mute swan, whooper swan, Canada goose and graylag goose. Osprey do not nest at the lake but come regularly to fish. In the spring, the lake is also visited by spoonbills, oystercatchers and mergansers.
The best observation sites for southern Hulingen and Lönekullaviken are at one of the two towers. The northern one can be reached via the village of Järnudda. The southern tower is reached via Målilla towards Hagelsrum.
During spring and fall, especially in bad weather, there are sometimes many birds resting in the northern part and among those who can appear can be mentioned blackbirds, sea egrets, eiders and long-tailed ducks.
The best observation sites are at Hultsfreds Camping, and at the "stone bridge". You can reach the campsite from the road towards Basebo. The easiest way to reach Stenbryggan is to follow the road towards the residential area "Strandlyckan". During the fall migration, you have the opportunity to see buzzard, common buzzard, sparrowhawk, blue harrier, goshawk, stone falcon, kestrel.
