DIRECTIONS
The final stage of the Mörbylångeden trail runs alternately across lake areas and along village streets, on the old railway embankment and through terraced villages. HRH Crown Princess Victoria walked this stage during her 2018 Island Landscape Walk.
From the Seby location, walk south across the unique seascapes, accompanied by exuberant birdlife, to the harbour of Gräsgård, then walk west towards the highway. After crossing the road, continue on the picturesque village street through Gammalsby which soon leads into the next village, Mellstaby. After the villages you pass an irrigation pond and the trail continues on the old railway embankment, which here is partly shared with the cycle path - Ölandsleden.
After a stretch of forest, the trail turns west and follows the fields for about 300 metres. Then cross the wooden bridge and cut across the alvar to a stile, and continue to Eketorp Castle. Here there is a rest area with a shelter, barbecue area and toilet.
Pass the parking of Eketorp Castle and join the cycle path along the old railway embankment to Enetri. There you cross county road 925 and follow the village road with beautiful views of the lake district and the Baltic Sea. The last stretch to Ottenby hostel continues on the county road through the long, beautiful terraced village of Näsby, divided by the Karl X wall. From the hostel, you can follow the County Administrative Board's hiking trail through Ottenby grove and down to Öland's southern cape and Långe Jan - Sweden's highest lighthouse. Parking is available at the start and finish of the stage, as well as at Eketorp Castle and Gräsgård Harbour.
Take the opportunity to visit Eketorp Castle, a uniquely preserved Iron Age village. There is a 1.6 km hiking trail at Eketorps Borg.
From Ottenby hostel, you can follow the County Administrative Board's hiking trail through the Ottenbylunden and down to Öland's southern cape and Långe Jan.

Facts
Eketorp Castle Eketorp Castle is Sweden's only fully researched and reconstructed ancient castle. The castle was in use during both the Iron Age and the Middle Ages. Read more at eketorpsborg.se
Gammalsby lake fields The pastures between the fields and the shoreline are called lake meadows. Öland slopes gently to the east, so most of the lake areas are on the eastern side of the island. The open and grazed lands are important for breeding and resting birds. From Seby location and Gräsgårds harbour you can easily reach Gammalsby lakes. Please bring binoculars. Respect the bird protection that applies during certain parts of the year.
