9. Gymnastikplatsen

The gymnasium was of the simplest possible kind, consisting of only eight sturdy posts dug into the ground (20 x 10 meters). Strong planks were anchored between the posts and from these hung bars and ropes.

Officers and conscripts practiced and trained here for the equilibristic gymnastic displays of the time, for example at midsummer celebrations on the plain. The facility became a playground for local youth.

In the moonlight on dark evenings and nights, the facility could resemble a gallows hill. The ropes hung heavy and frightening, the wind tore and pulled ominously at them and their fastenings creaked.

Weather and wind eventually caused the structure to rot and was therefore demolished.
