Description
Västraård's burial ground contains several ancient monuments, such as stone circles, burial mounds and standing stones. The most famous and striking is a rune stone called Västragårdsstenen or Vråes sten.
The rune stone is made of gray granite and almost three meters high. The design of the carving and the shapes of the runes show that the stone dates from the end of the Viking Age.
Data from the 1660s ancient monuments inventory also shows that the rune stone is still in its original place. The text on the stone reads: "Vråe set this stone after Gunne his brother He died in England".
