Description
Värnamo Parish Church
was built 1872-75 in accordance with designs by architect Albert Törnqvist.
There has been a church on the site since the Middle Ages. The church is built in
the style of a Latin cross, where the arms of the side aisles are shorter than
the nave. There is a sanctuary in the east and a spire crowned with a cross, as
well as the main entrance, in the west. The church is built in an east-west orientation.
The exterior is built
in a neoclassical style but with some neo-Gothic features such as the pointed
spire and the mullioned windows. The façades are smoothly plastered and white.
The building has a gable roof covered with copper sheeting.
The interior of the
church has neo-Gothic style features, mainly made of wood. The nave has three aisles
and ends with a sanctuary with three tall stained-glass windows. In the church
there is an Andreas chapel with a christening font from the 13th century. A
chandelier from 1777 hangs from the ceiling.
