Description

Nydala Abbey was founded in 1143 by monks from Clara Vallis (The Bright Valley) in France. They named it Nova Vallis (The New Valley or Nydala in Swedish). Feel free to visit the abbey, the historic abbey garden and the church stables, which offer basic accommodation. In the stables you can also stamp your pilgrim pass.

Nydala Abbey Church is one of the first Cistercian monasteries in the Nordic region. Several pilgrimage trails converge here. During the summer, guided tours of the abbey, the theatrical performance ‘Det Rika Nova Vallis’ and hikes on the pilgrimage trails are organised.
