Description

The sculpture ‘Per och Kersti’ (Per and Kersti) in the Flanaden square in the centre of Värnamo is based on the famous poem ‘På Värnamo marknad’ (At Värnamo Market) by Carl Snoilsky, about two lovers who met at Värnamo market in the 18th century but had to wait many long years before they could marry.

The artist KG Bejemark studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and was a professor there from 1971 to 1978. During the 1950s and 60s, he worked on abstract sculptures in the form of rings and spheres, as well as sheet metal sculptures evoking the human form. Towards the end of the 1960s he moved away from the abstract and in the 1970s and 80s made a number of realistic sculptures of famous Swedes from bronze and wood, such as Nils Ferlin in Filipstad. KG Bejemark is mainly known for his sculptures located in public places, such as ‘Humor’ (Humour) at Slussen in Stockholm.
