Artwork: Hans (pojke)

The artist Margareta
Engström trained at the Académie Libre in Paris and the Academy of Fine Arts in
Stockholm, and her art is characterised by lyrical, almost sacred, depictions
of people and nature. The people are calm and often stand with their heads bowed.
She has created numerous altarpieces and sculptures for churches and chapels,
as well as decorations for hospitals, schools and libraries.

She has sculpted
several children using her nieces and nephews as models. This is also true of
the sculpture ‘Hans’, the metre-high boy in bronze, which stands outside the
Sjösala sheltered housing facility in Bor. Purchased by the Municipality of
Värnamo in 1979.
