Artwork: Folkrörelsekvinnan

‘Folkrörelsekvinnan’ (The
Popular Movement Woman) is located outside the railway station. The artist Lena
Lervik was commissioned by the Municipality of Värnamo to create a monument to
those from popular movements who have worked in silence. The woman is holding a
placard that reads: “Hyllning till dem inom våra folkrörelser som verkar i det
tysta” (Tribute to those who work in silence in our popular movements).

Lena chose to depict
the woman who assisted her partner when she herself did not have the right to
vote. The woman who campaigned in silence, advocated, lit the fires in meeting
rooms, put up posters and made coffee. Here she is surrounded by the half mould
of a man voting.
