Description

The ‘Equilibrium’
bench is the third bench in the City of Benches project. It was designed by
Charlotte Gyllenhammar to symbolise the balance between two children sitting on
a seesaw. ‘Equilibrium’ was donated by Värnamo couple Bengt and Gunnel
Liljedahl.

The ‘Equilibrium’
bench was unveiled on 9 October 2021.

The seesaw that
stands still

Two children in
overalls sit on the seesaw. Children in overalls is a recurring theme in
Charlotte Gyllenhammar’s sculptures and artworks, and the garment symbolises
the Swedish climate.

“This figure has
accompanied me in all my art. And now the children are also in Värnamo,” says
Gyllenhammar about her sculpture.

artist Charlotte Gyllenhammar on her website.

The material is cast
bronze. The dimensions are 3.3 metres in width and 1.2 metres in height. The
bench is completely horizontal, in perfect balance and cannot be rocked.
