Britt-Ingrid Persson
(BIP) studied at Konstfack (University of Arts, Crafts and Design) and then had
her own studio on Kungsholmen. She initially worked mostly in clay but switched
to concrete quite early on to avoid the need for joints and an oven. It took
time to learn how concrete works and, above all, to keep track of the weight.

In 2012 she was named
concrete designer of the year. Things that have always interested her are
rhythm, disruption and boundaries. All of the senses work in rhythms and move
towards an ever-increasing flow of energy that hopefully leads to the
understanding of the context. The pronounced tone and pause are both equally
important in the creative process and the finished artwork. “The fusion process
in sculpture is earthy, takes a long time, requires patience and a lot of
craftsmanship. It needs a higher level of abstraction, similar to poetry. Where
painting has a fixed background, sculpture has a moving background that the
artist is part of. And it’s quite lonely; you should be able to amuse
yourself!” (BIP after the award)

The artwork ‘Dans’
(Dance) is cast in bronze and stands outside the Culture School at Finnveden
Upper Secondary School. Purchased by the Municipality of Värnamo in 2010.
