Description

The place has had several different names over the years. The first known owner of Horsnäs was Jon Dansson (Bååt). This was in the early 14th century. He was married to Bo Jonsson Grip's mother in her second marriage. It is therefore likely that Bo Jonsson Grip grew up on the farm. In 1360 the farm was sold to Bo Jonsson Grip and the farm changed its name to Gripgården for a time.
Erik Eriksson, who lived at Horsnäs, was introduced at the House of Knights in 1625 when the family name Ulf af Horsnäs was given to the family.
Baron Christer Bonde and his wife Anna Catharina Wrangel af Lindeberg had the castle built in 1692, a huge two-storey wooden castle based on an Italian villa. Katrineholm Castle was named after the aforementioned Catharina. The idea was that it would become the estate of the Bondes family, but the sandy ground around the castle created many problems. As a consequence, the castle stood deserted for the last 150 years and was demolished in 1889.
The foundations of houses and vague traces of the large Dutch garden linger in the landscape.
