Description

Bredaryd Church was
built in 1863 according to designs by architect Emil Viktor Langlet and was
consecrated in 1865. The current church replaced an older church from the
Middle Ages.

Bredaryd Church is a
large hall church built in empirical style. This can be seen in both the plan
and the austere design.

The nave is in the
east with a rounded sanctuary. The steeple and dome are in the west and the vestry
is in the north. The nave has a gable roof, clad with diagonal slate. The façades
are rough cast and whitewashed.

The interior of the
church is characterised by the light and austere ideals of the building period.
The interiors include artefacts from the old church, a 12th century sandstone christening
font and a 13th century triumphal crucifix. The retable from the old church,
which dates back to the early 18th century is now placed on the north wall.
