Description
Björnekullakärret is one of just a few alkaline fens in the Småland highlands. There is plenty of exciting flora and fauna here. The vegetation in Björnekullakärret is different from that in other parts of the national park. It is probably the finest rich fen in the county, and at about 5 hectares is large by county standards. Many rare and endangered species thrive here, including various orchids, marsh mosses and whorl snails. Until the 1940s, large parts of the marsh were cleared for haymaking. Today, a small area is cleared for nature conservation purposes.
