Description
Sprötberget Nature Reserve consists of two mountains, Sprötberget and Bodberget. At the top of the mountains you will find almost only spruce trees, both living and dead and fallen. On the slopes of the mountains, the spruces are mixed with deciduous trees.
In patches, deciduous trees are in the majority, known as deciduous burns. They have grown up after the fire has progressed and other trees have not been able to outcompete them.
The forest in the Sprötberget nature reserve is not very old, the oldest trees are up to 170 years old. This is probably due to the fact that the forest has been dimensionally felled, i.e. the largest and oldest trees have been felled.
In addition, the fire has advanced in the area and it can be suspected that the forest has been cleared of fire-damaged trees and stumps. In any case, you can find a lot of dead fallen trees.
Almost half of the nature reserve is designated as part of the European network of protected nature, Natura 2000. The Sprötberget nature reserve contains the western taiga habitat type and the important species forest reed.
Inventories in the area have so far found 27 rare species. One species is directly threatened with extinction, four other species are classified as vulnerable.

Here there is a barrier across the road but it is mostly open. For safety's sake, however, it can be good to have a bicycle with you. Follow the small road for 3.6 kilometers and then turn right (about 700 m after the sharp bend) and continue for 500 meters. You will now arrive at an open parking lot and the nature reserve information sign.
