Description

Perhaps the most exciting adventure in Östersund is the Ice Cave on Frösön. Isgrottan, is a rock cave located on Frösön. The cave system is about 120 meters with a height difference of about 15 meters. The cave has two entrances, both of which lead to a large and powerful rock room with a ceiling height of 8 meters. The distance from A to B is about 30 meters. The larger entrance (A) is easier and more spacious. Here you need to crouch a few meters into a small space and crawl through a low passage. Once inside, you can then crouch further into the rock a few meters, a hole in the right side of the cave passage leads down to the next level one meter down. The passage continues and to the right a dark hole opens. Here you have to go down the sloping hole that leads into the cave's largest rock room. Be aware that there may be ice on the way down. To get out, it's easiest to turn around and take the same way back. If you're feeling more adventurous and ready to crawl and wriggle your way out, you can exit through the second entrance (B), a passageway that is narrower and more complicated. Along this passage you'll need to crawl and step over a couple of boulders, but there are also some small rooms where you can stretch out your body. The last few meters require you to climb up and push yourself out.
