Start / finish

The trailhead is on a toll road. You can rent a key for 100 SEK at Ica Ottsjö Bua. If you do not want to rent a key, you can also walk the road from the western trail parking lot at the far end of Ottsjö. From the parking lot to the trailhead it is 6km.

Time

The time depends on the number of stops and the speed you walk. You walk on average 4-5 km per hour at walking pace. If you carry a pack, the time per kilometer increases.

Recommended period

This trail runs partly in areas that are sensitive when the ground is wet. Avoid the trail during snow melt and also when it has rained a lot.

Experience along the trail

Stop and enjoy the wings of history at the pastures in Bottenvallen.

On your feet

Relatively dry trail with a lot of footbridges and dry paths. Hiking boots or coarser sneakers are suitable for this tour.

Dog

Dogs are of course welcome but remember to keep them on a leash and to remove poop that ends up where someone else may accidentally walk in it.

Garbage

Everything that is taken up on the trip must also be taken back again. If you have the opportunity, feel free to carry more garbage home than you took out with you.

The trail runs on a gravel road, natural paths and footbridges.

From the trailhead, follow the gravel road that leads up to the right, here you pass the barrier and walk easily on the flat road. After 1km, the pasture wall "Bottenvallen" opens up. Here the trail turns left down through the wall and continues down towards Skårrån.

If you want a flatter walk, continue here directly left and follow the trails via the footbridges over the marshes next to the shore. For those who want a slightly longer adventure, continue across the river and then enter the Vålådalen nature reserve.

Choose how far up you want to go to get the nice views and go the same way down again and connect the trail to the right to hike the trail around and back to the parking lot.

From the nearest bus stop or train station

The nearest bus stop is in Ottsjö and from the bus station it is 1km to walk along the road to the trailhead. To get to Ottsjö by bus, choose Länstrafikens buss 562.

The nearest train station is Undersåkers station. Here you pass Länstrafikens bus 562 for further travel up or down from Ottsjö.

Turn off the E14 in Undersåker and follow the signs for Vålådalen/ Ottsjö. Follow Vålådalsvägen until you see signs for Ottsjö and then turn right and follow the road until it ends. Here you will find a large gravel field to park on.

If you want to rent the boom key to get all the way to the trailhead, stop at Ica Ottsjö Bua on the way to rent it for 100 SEK.

Once at the parking lot, turn left and continue through the barrier and up to the trailhead 6km in.
