Description
The church is named after the patron saint of seafarers and was built in the 15th century. St. Nicholas Church is, alongside the castle and the North Gate, one of the few buildings that remained after the great fire of 1619. The fire destroyed the church's tower and roof, which after various restorations over the centuries got its current design in the years 1869-1872. Several tombs date from the 17th and 18th centuries, but 58 tombstones have also been found, 15 of which date from the Middle Ages. Some of them are displayed in the porch. The stained glass windows in the church were made by Halmstad Group member Erik Olson.
