Here, at Vike Memorial Farm, you can experience an ancient cultural landscape that shows Gotland's traditional building techniques and materials.

The farm shows how people lived and farmed the land under self-sufficiency conditions where fishing was at least as important as agriculture. The farm's proximity to the sea provided good conditions for both farming and fishing.

The manor house from 1833 is a two-storey limestone building with a hipped roof. The wing houses a farmhand's cottage and a brewhouse with a baking oven. The farm is divided into a small farm and a large farm separated by a plastered wall.

The main farm has several buildings from the 18th century, including a threshing floor, where grain was threshed using the power of horses. There is also a blacksmith's forge, at a safe distance because it was so flammable.

The barn is made up of several parts of varying age and function. The buildings are constructed using the shiftesverk technique, known as bulhus in Gotlandic. The roof is covered with ag, perhaps you have seen it in several places on this island? The use of ag has a long tradition on Gotland and can be found on several farm buildings, such as warehouses and barns, around the landscape. The County Administrative Board provides annual grants for roofing and re-roofing to maintain the tradition and knowledge of the material.

The farm has an associated kitchen and herb garden and an abundance of fruit trees.

If you take a walk through the farm's associated meadows, you will soon come down to the sea and the associated beach shed. The seaweed was used as fertilizer in the fields. The surrounding forest and pastures provided grazing for the animals and fodder for the winter.
