Description
Vägumeviksleden is an approximately 10 km long coastal path
on the northeastern side of Gotland, which belongs to the Slite Archipelago. Vägumeviksleden starts from the entry point to
Asunden and ends in the Länna harbour, which lies north of Slite’s
industrial area.
Vägumeviksleden offers a wonderful opportunity to walk along
a coastline rich with bird life and other nature. You get to experience forest paths, Barläst with its historical lime kiln, and coastal
meadows where animals graze in the summer to help control
the growth of reeds. Here you can also see cranes together with
sheep, horses, and cattle.
It is beautiful to walk here in May when the wood anemones
flowering in the forest, and if you are lucky, you may even see the
first cranes arriving for the season. In the latter half of the summer, you can sometimes see up to 500 cranes around the bay.
Vägumeviksleden has been created by the non-profit association,
Vägumevikens Vänner (www.vagumeviken.se). The organisation
has also laid out stiles (stairs) and cattle grids in the meadows
found around the bay
