Helges hage, Naturreservat

  • Nature reserve
of 5 stars

Actions

Description

The 20-hectare nature reserve Helges hage is easily accessible right next to road 140 just south of the descent to Sandhamn. The reserve is largely covered by grazing older

The forest in Helges hage consists mainly of older pine forest. However, there is a relatively large proportion of spruce, and there are also deciduous trees such as birch, ash and hazel. The area has a long forestry continuity and has long been managed as a traditional farmer's forest, i.e. with picking and forest grazing. Helges hage was last grazed in the 1960s and is now growing back. In some parts, however, the forest grazing character is still evident.

In Helges hage, the tall and rare grasses shadblossom and sedge grow in many places.
