Björkume, Naturreservat

Björkume is an easily accessible nature reserve that invites you for long walks. You can also drive to the beach huts at Allstädar, a place that brings you close to the sea.

The reserve covers an area of almost 240 hectares of forest and moorland, stretching from road 149 down to the beach between Stenkyrkehuk and Burge. The forest consists mainly of a sparse and herb-rich pine forest, but closer to the sea the forest is denser, and there is also a significant element of spruce. On the shore slope south of the beach shacks at Allstädar, there are plenty of yew trees.

The area's numerous wetlands consist partly of vegetation-poor bleaching lakes, which normally dry out in summer, and partly of botanically rich spring marshes, which are irrigated by groundwater and are wet all year round. The vegetation in the wetlands is dominated by grasses and sedges. The wetlands often have completely unvegetated areas of bleak, i.e. limestone mud. In the spring marshes, the vegetation has a completely different composition. Here you will find, among other things, hay flower, wild linden, meadowsweet, mayweed, marsh lily, greater willowherb, coastal arum, marsh gentian and brown eyebright. You can also find orchids such as spurge, sweet woodruff, marsh marigold and marsh helleborine.

From the southern border of the nature reserve to Rönnklint (Skarklint), an approximately 30 meter high coastal cliff runs parallel to and a few tens of meters inside the beach. Just north of Rönnklint, the cliff turns inland and takes on a fragmented appearance. There are several caves in the cliff. On the slope down to the beach at Allstädar there is a beach gravel area with distinctive beach embankments.
