Description

Storkvarnberget is 460 meters high. The nature reserve stretches from the top down the eastern side of the mountain. There are some really steep sections on the eastern side and vertical drops with heights of up to 30 meters. There are no paths in the Storkvarnberget nature reserve, so you can roam freely. Storkvarnberget is located 12 kilometers south of Los, just west of Övre Lomsjön and covers 98 hectares. The area is characterized by a mosaic landscape. Fire-affected natural forest containing old smooth-barked pines, aspen-rich ravines and lush spruce forest with plenty of lying dead trees.

Due to its cliffs and precipices, large parts of the area have not been affected by forestry. As a result, the forest has developed high natural values linked to fire-affected and deciduous mixed coniferous forest.

Storkvarnberget is a valuable area from a nature conservation point of view. Many interesting species thrive in the nature reserve, such as the lung lichen, coral lead lichen and woolly tick.
