Description

At Stora Sundsjöberget in Orsa Finnmark you meet a real wilderness area. The mountain is about 640 meters above sea level. The reserve also includes the slightly smaller Låhilammsknoppen mountain and some bogs and lakes. There are no paths here, so you can roam freely in the forest, but there is a forest road in the area that is good to start from. Or you can look out over the marshes. The forest, mountains and marshes offer great nature experiences.

Stora Sundsjöberget is located 7.5 kilometers south of Tandsjöborg and covers 667 hectares. Here grows a fire-affected, natural pine forest. It is largely unaffected by modern forestry, which means that the trees are old and of different ages.

Valuable for many

Several threatened and rare species thrive here. One of them is the relict beetle, which develops inside the thick crust bark of very old, living and sun-exposed pines.

There are also very rare fungi such as the wool tick and crystal tick, as well as the salmonberry fungus that thrives in fire environments.
