Sågtjärnsskogens nature reserve is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Bollnäs. The reserve is 53 hectares large, with natural forest and water. There are some unmarked paths in the reserve and the Finnskog trail passes right outside. The nature reserve is located about 340 meters above sea level and is entirely above the highest coastline. Here you can hike over forested heights, rest by a magical pond and see traces of forest fires. The stream is also home to the endangered river pearl mussel.
There are few trails in the area, but the Finnskog trail passes close by. Sågtjärnsskogen is protected mainly to preserve the old fire-prone coniferous forest. It has largely grown up after a fire and then been allowed to develop freely. There are no traces of modern forestry except in the southern part by the road.
There are plenty of old pines that survived the last forest fire. Some of them have damage to their trunks, known as fire blight. Regulations
