Description

Within the reserve grows an unusual forest type that almost does not exist in a natural forest state. It is a highly productive forest where the trees are allowed to grow old and die of age. There is a lot of spruce, but also deciduous trees such as birch and aspen. In Klovbacken you can roam freely in the forest, there are no paths in the area. The nature reserve is best experienced in the spring with flowering wood anemones and bluebells.

In the fall, there are plenty of chanterelles. The forests and the stream offer great nature experiences.

Sweet grass along the stream

The area is located 9 kilometers north of Bergsjö, 8 kilometers west of Gnarp and covers 12 hectares. The south-facing forest slope is home to unusual species that have difficulty surviving in the cultivated landscape.

In the reserve, for example, the unusual sweet grass grows along the stream that runs through the area. You can also find the grasses big bluestem and small bluestem here.

Untouched forest experience

The forest feels untouched. Many herbs are present, such as witch hazel and ferns, and the wood anemone shows that there is lime in the soil.

There are also trees with woodpecker holes, mainly aspen. The large aspen tick grows on older aspens and the woolly tick and spruce tick grow on spruce leaves.

Animals in Klovbacken

There is a rich bird life in the older forest. The high proportion of old trees and deciduous trees and the presence of dead wood create good conditions for insects and thus many birds.

The area is home to three-toed woodpeckers, grey woodpeckers and barn owls.
