Description
The hilly nature area in Flarksjöberget Nature Reserve is varied. There are five mountain peaks, all reaching over 600 meters above sea level, and in the hollows in the terrain you will find pools and marshland. Here you can walk on the path. Or take a break at the picnic area by the pond. Marshes, lakes and older natural forest offer great opportunities for relaxation.
Flarksjöberget Nature Reserve is located west of Tandsjöborg and covers 293 hectares. The area is dominated by pine forest, where some pines are more than 250 years old. Almost 200 years ago, the area was hit by a forest fire and there are traces of it in several places.
Many species are linked to old forest. Yarn lichen, violet thorn lichen and skin lichen have been observed in the area.
Traces of man
Man has also left traces in the landscape. Older stumps show evidence of forestry probably from the early 1900s. Similarly, low-lying land in several places was dammed up in the 1950s to be used as ponds for rearing trout and brown trout.
At one of the old ponds there is a picnic area with a fireplace. To get there, you can either take the old road or the winding forest path.
Animals in Flarksjöberget
There are many different birds in the area. Among others, the lesser spotted woodpecker, lichen jay and three-toed woodpecker have been observed. Birds of prey often nest on the slopes.
