Description
Blårönningens nature reserve consists of an old spruce forest with lots of moss and fallen trees. There are no marked trails or paths here, so you can roam freely in the forest. Just outside the reserve boundary you can hike on the Hälsingland Trail. The plants and forest offer a great nature experience. Blårönningen is located 7 kilometers southwest of Arbrå and covers 16 hectares. Many of the spruce trees in the reserve have blown over or died standing in recent years. These dead trees mean that there are plenty of unusual fungi that feed on dead spruces.
Extremely rare fungus
The main attraction of the area is the extremely rare taiga pore fungus, which is only found in a few places in the whole country. When it was found here in 1991, it was the first record for the country.
Since 1991, more taiga pore fruiting bodies have been found in the area. Hopefully, with all the dead spruce trees, the taiga will survive in the nature reserve.
Animals in Blårönningen
A lot of moss grows on the moist ground, mostly spruce white moss but also a lot of the slightly rarer ball white moss.
There are also plenty of ferns and freckle plants. The Nybo stream runs through the nature reserve, which itself has high natural values, including trout.
Around the stream there are flat former hay meadows that are occasionally flooded and here grows a richer vegetation with, among other things, tolta, ostrich fern and lundstjärnblomma. The rare grass cowslip is also found in the nature reserve.
There are records of three-toed woodpecker and barn owl in the area.
