Älvpromenaden, Västannor-Dragsängarna

Hike the trail from Västannor across the fields towards Insjön, through Dragsängarna and up to Bäckenhamn. Here you can experience beautiful views and a rich bird life. At Dragsängarna, the trail runs along the embankment that was once built to increase the area of arable land. Today, a large part of the embanked land that was intended to be used as arable land has grown again. The area is rich in birds as there is a great variety of deciduous forest, fields and shallow lake areas. From a hide that Leksand's bird club has built, it is possible to look for ducks, swans, geese and waders foraging in the shallow area outside the dike. The fish farm in Insjön also attracts many birds, especially in winter. Rarities such as white-tailed eagles visit annually, but occasionally it is also possible to see other unique species. In 2011, for example, the fish farm was visited by a pink-cheeked pelican. In spring, the soundscape in the deciduous forest is in a class of its own, with characteristic species such as the warbler, the redshank and the rosefinch.
