Vägskälets naturreservat

Vägskälet is located about eight kilometers southwest of the center of Leksand on both sides of Järnavägen. The area is very easily accessible next to roads and with a spacious parking lot by the road to Ljusbodarna. A marked nature trail leads through parts of the reserve, past clear coal beds and slogboden. The trail starts from the parking lot, across the road.

The reserve consists of old coniferous forest with high natural values. Unusual wood fungi, mosses and birds thrive here. Parts of the area have previously been used for haymaking and grazing. In the spring, you can find the vascular plant spring pea at the mowing shed. In winter, Leksand's bird club takes care of bird feeding at the slaughterhouse. If you are lucky, the grey woodpecker will visit and help itself to the suet. Examples of other birds that can be seen or heard are three-toed woodpecker, sparrow owl and wolverine.
