Description
Skinnaråsen is a high mountain pasture, around 400 m above sea level, with extensive views mainly to the north and west. Many of the old gray farm cottages and associated buildings are preserved and most are well cared for. During the 60s and 70s, some holiday homes have been added. Fortunately, the central parts of the pastoral environment are kept open by grazing sheep. All in all, this makes for a very appealing landscape.
The first time Skinnaråsen is mentioned in writing is in the 1663 fäbod inventory. At the time of the land transfer, around 1824, Skinnaråsen had grown with fields and large areas of hay meadows. Skinnaråsen probably flourished in the second half of the 19th century, when there were at most 22 shepherd's huts. Pastoral farming then declined markedly in the early 1900s, but a single one lasted into the 1930s.
In addition to the old buildings, you can see and experience some of the older cultural landscape that no longer exists closer to the urban areas. For example, remains of meadow flora, field hedges, cairns and trees affected by grazing or pollarding.
