Currently

Sjöberget has been hit hard by the storm Johannes and in the northern part of the reserve it is sometimes difficult to get around and even dangerous. Do not walk in areas with leaning trees. When it is very windy, you should not be in the reserve at all. In the northern part of the reserve, there has been so much rain that not all paths will be reopened. Our goal is to have the Bysey Trail run through or along the edge of the reserve, and to have a circular trail, but it is not yet clear what the route will be.

Description

Sjöberget rises as a distinctive rock on the northern edge of the Kvarnsveden district, about 4 kilometers north of Borlänge city center. The old spruce forest is used by many for walking and recreation by schools nearby.

The forest consists mostly of older spruce coniferous forest where the oldest trees are about 200 years old. In some places, the amount of dead trees in the form of dry bark or flames has become significant, which benefits many forest-dwelling plant and animal species. Several red-listed species that are favored by dead wood have been found. The border tick, woolly tick and scented leather are all dependent on lying dead trees, especially spruce. Other species found and often associated with older coniferous forests are the eye pyrola and violet-gray thorn lichen.

There are two barbecue areas in the area, with barbecue and benches. There is also a path adapted for wheelchairs and prams. The path starts at the barracks and takes you up to Stora Stenen where there is a barbecue area with benches. You need to bring your own firewood to these barbecue areas.

Perfekt strövområde en vardagkväll - kanske inget besöksmål som jag hade åkt flera mil för.
Stundtals lite svårt att hänga med i ledmarkeringarna, men det finns en viss charm i det med också.
