Description
In Rottnebyskogen you are welcome to play and roam or just enjoy the forest. The forest has previously been used for forestry but is today protected. In the forest you can find really old pine trees, many are older than 200 years. The old pine trees are majestic and in their turn form fine pearl halls. You can see that they are old in the coarse and curved branches and the coarse bark, called the bark of bark. Some pines have died and remain as dry trees or silver fur. Others have fallen and lie like flames. Dead wood is of great benefit to many of the forest's inhabitants.
In the southern part of the reserve is an open area with wonderful views of the lakes Runn and Hosjön. Previously, there has been arable land where various crops have been cultivated, but now the land will have to develop into a meadow. Because the soil is beaten every year, many flowers get better conditions for survival and the flower care increases. Enjoy the nice view from the rest table. Here the Swedish fika taste particularly good!
It is unique to find such old forest in Falun because the demand for wood and wood was great in the late 19th century. During the latter part of the 1990s, the area was planned to be felled, but through a strong opinion work, the forest could be preserved for the future.
From the parking lot at Rottneby mansion, it is not far up to the rest area on the meadow where there is barbecue area and wood. From the meadow there is a gravel trail that passes the two bunker stalls with fireplace and here is easy to walk with stroller.
